The Dance Music Database (DMD) is a streaming music library created in support of the Graduate Teaching Associates in the Department of Dance at The Ohio State University. Created in response to the special needs of dance instruction, covering a wide variety of styles, the DMD gives GTA's a cost-free and comprehensive collection of music to support pedagogical best practices in the studio. Previously, musical support for unaccompanied dance classes was contingent upon the teachers' personal music collections, and limited by the cost of purchasing new music.
Through a Seed Grant provided by the University Center for the Advancement of Teaching (UCAT) at OSU, Noelle Bohaty and Brandon Whited (MFA class of 2016) found an opportunity to create the DMD in support of GTA's. Through collective efforts in the department, and oversight, design, and organization by Elijah Palnik, the DMD is up and running. This is the beginning of what will hopefully become a legacy project of long-term support for the Graduate Teaching Associates in the Department of Dance at OSU.
